Shazam!

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson's case, by shouting out one word - SHAZAM! - this streetwise fourteen-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult superhero Shazam.

Yeah, it is the best DC film since Michael Keaton”s Batman; but that isn’t saying much. Especially as it wasn’t originally a DC creation,
All the best bits were shown in the trailers, and everything else was predictable – aside from the error they made with the number in the group (those who have seen it will know what I mean. I remember the old cartoon series – didn’t that have a couple of people who had magic rings they had to put together and shout Shazam!? Anyway, not worth the price of a cinema ticket. Watch it here or wait for the DVD/’download option.

No one else remember the incarnation were Shazam/Cpt Marvel was all the foster kids in one body? Each have a skill set pertaining to a power (i.e. brains/wisdom). That being said this was a great movie. I love Shazam and watched this with low expectations, yet was very surprised.

in the short lived cartoon from decades ago, capt marvel shared his power with mary and freddy, however when they reworked the 52 back in 2011 or 12 they made shazam a part of a group home with 5 foster siblings. that is what the premise of the movie is about. its current incarnation which at best is 8 yrs old.

On the rings, you are thinking of The Wonder Twins. Unrelated (except they are Super Friends and DC).

Wasn’t there a hanna barbara cartoon with two rings and the conjured up a Genie named Shazam way back in the 60’s too ??

Yeah, so I’m like 1 hour 17 minutes into this film and it feels way too much like the Tom Hanks film Big to me. In that film they take a kid who’s 13yo and once he inhabits a grown man’s body they mentally make him 8yo. So in this film they take a 14yo and have him inhabit a grown man’s body with super hero powers and mentally make him 8yo. And it’s not even funny, like they are going for. I understand they are going in a different direction than the darkness that was Batman, but this isn’t working for me. I’m not watching the rest of this film. Too campy and trying too hard to be funny and bring levity to the DC franchise. Think I’ll rewatch GOTG instead. So basically, if you didn’t like Big then you won’t like this either. Rather disappointing, IMO. BTW, I’m not pro-Marvel and anti-DC as I wasn’t fond of Ragnorok either as IMO that was also trying too hard to be funny and bring levity. I’m not expecting all super hero films to be serious or dark as there’s opportunities for humour here and there, just don’t force it. After 77 minutes it feels like this film is trying way too hard to force it and I’ve lost interest.

Funny, campy, true to comic book writing and humor tradition. Not highbrow at all but a story meant to entertain 😛 It was a fun watch. 7.5/10 for me.

Watched it in theaters with the wife and mother in law and weren’t disappointed. Every funny scene on point and the action as well. This movie is obviously a family friendly movie but for all ages. Sorry, but we all can’t have a Batman nor Superman themed movie all the time.

EXCELLENT cam copy! Totally watchable! I enjoyed this movie even though i don’t really know a lot about Shazam! other than the basics. I will definitely be watching this again when a better copy comes out. That ending though LOL! Talk about a “teaser” LOL!

Was great as it should have been, the cast story and all worked well to pull this off. The bit with saying the name, it has been back and forth about if he says it with intent or not he will transform. I think they are going with the new 52 here which seeing as he in not Captain marvel would make more sense. Besides that i loved the movie

Let’s face it – this movie is for kids. The laughs probably appeal more to a younger audience but a few times they kept me entertained as an adult. The timing of the funny parts needed to be better and I blame the cast for that. I was disappointed that it didn’t do better with its delivery. Still, kids will enjoy it and I’m sure this will draw adults to the theaters to watch it as a family. Picture “Big” meets “The Power Rangers”.

The Cam Copy was really good, about as good as your ever gonna get really, i found the first 3/4 of the movie fairly boring, the last 20 min was entertaining, but I think it needed to be a bit more serious, not dark, just serious. but I guess it’s a kids movie . 6/10

Not bad, has some good moments, tries too hard to be funny though. Good one for the little kids and some popcorn.

This is a very good cam copy, albeit with the 1xbet ads randomly appearing a few times. I was concerned that this would be a disaster, but it’s far from that; it was very well done. I enjoyed almost everything about this. Highly recommend.

this Captain Marvel movie is far better then the other Captain Marvel (incase your interested there’s a long and complicated history as to why DC’s Captain Marvel got h9is name changed to Shazam)
